Shanghai-made film “The Climbers” had its world premiere before an audience of 1,000 at the Shanghai Film Art Center on Friday.

Director Daniel Lee, actors Wu Jing, Zhang Yi, Jing Boran and Wang Jingchun walked the red carpet before the screening.

The film tells touching and true stories of two generations of Chinese mountaineers who conquered Mount Qomolangma from the perilous north side in 1960 and 1975.

Ren Zhonglun, chairman of the Shanghai Film Group Corp and producer of the film, said he was deeply impressed by the never-yielding spirit of Chinese climbers and the efforts of the crew to present a sincere movie.

To date, the film has already taken in over 100 million yuan (US$14 million) in pre-sale. It is slated for release in China, the UK and North America on Monday.
