More than 70 scholars and dignitaries from developing countries and the UN visited Shanghai's famous sites on Saturday on their way to attend a human rights forum in Beijing.

They include experts and government officials who will be guests of honor at the South-South Human Rights Forum to be held in Beijing on December 10 and 11.

Among the sites they toured in Shanghai were Shanghai Tower, the world's second-tallest building, Xintiandi, the World Expo Museum, Wulijiao Community and the Xuhui riverfront.

The guests were impressed with the city and its development, their tour guide Zhang Jun said. “Shanghai is fast-growing and developing in a good way, especially the update of public services... That’s the part that interests them the most.”

In terms of human rights issues, China is becoming more and more open and confident, Davina Sigauta Rasch, director of corporate services, Office of the Ombudsman, Samoa told Xinhua news agency. “China has made so much progress when it comes to public transport, mobile payments and other things.”

“The best part is that China is not just developing on its own, it is willing to share its experience with us and help other developing countries grow,” she added.
