Homeless shelters across the city have established emergency isolation and observation areas as a precaution against the pneumonia outbreak caused by a new coronavirus, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said on Friday.

They will not send homeless home during this year's Spring Festival holiday, according to the bureau.

People at the city's shelters will undergo physical examinations and those with symptoms of fever and coughing will be isolated.

Disinfection of vehicles carrying the homeless, ventilation and temperature screening measures have also been ordered, the bureau said.

A daily report system has been introduced over the health condition of the homeless.
