Shanghai's urban management and law enforcement officials check on the live poultry trade. 

Shanghai has called a halt to all wild animal trade.

Fifty-five monitoring venues in the city were inspected on Saturday and Sunday and no abnormal situation was detected, the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau said on Sunday night.

A total of 173 units including breeding centers, farmers' markets, flower and bird markets and animal display venues were checked by about 300 officials, and the wild animal trade has been halted, the bureau said.

The State Administration for Market Regulation ordered a ban of any kind of live wild animal trade on Sunday. Violators will be dealt with by the police if they are suspected of committing a crime.

The Shanghai Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau will conduct 24-hour inspections and patrols on wet markets and residential complexes with the live poultry sales the focus of attention.
