Bavi bringing strong winds and heavy rain

Typhoon Bavi, the eighth this year, will reach the same latitude as Shanghai on Tuesday bringing strong winds and heavy rain. 

It formed near Taiwan on Saturday and is moving northwest, according to the city’s weather bureau, with its wind strength increasing.

The bureau said that from Tuesday night to Wednesday, the maximum wind force in the local coastal area is expected to be 62 to 74 kilometers per hour, strong enough to blow down the branches, while that in the coastal sea of the city will be 117kph to 134kph, leading to huge waves. 

There will be thunder showers every day in the city and some areas will have heavy falls of rain.

Meanwhile, days when temperatures reach 35 degrees Celsius or over will end on Wednesday. 

A yellow heat alert, the third highest in a four-color tier system, was issued by the authority at 10:22am on Monday with a temperature of 36.2 degrees recorded at the benchmark Xujiahui meteorological center in downtown Xuhui District.

Although the high temperature on Tuesday will be 36 degrees, that is expected to decline gradually from 34 on Wednesday to 32 on Thursday and the rest of the week.
