Longyao Road Tunnel extension now officially open

The extension of the Longyao Road Tunnel officially opens to the public, Shanghai Chengtou Group announced on Sunday.
The project stretches from Jiyang Road to Changqing Road in the Pudong New Area, and will greatly ease nearby traffic pressure.
As a key cross-river link, the tunnel connecting Longwu Road in Xuhui District and Jiyang Road in Pudong has been in use since 2010.
Work on the extension began in 2016 to meet the development of areas including the New Bund, Zhoupu and the Xuhui riverfront after the 2010 World Expo.
A new mud-drying treatment technology was applied during construction, which can reduce environmental pollution through zero discharge of mud.
According to Chengtou, the completion of Longyao Tunnel can reduce detours and ease congestion on Yaohua Road, Jiyang Road and the Lupu Bridge.
