Tourism campaign puts fabled Shangri-La in the picture
A tourism campaign including a photo competition and exhibition to promote the beautiful landscape and unique folk customs of the ethnic minorities of Shangri-La has been launched.
The campaign is jointly hosted by the Shangri-La City Administration of Culture and Tourism and Shanghai Spring Tour.
Some 1,000 photographers from Shanghai will visit Shangri-La, in southwest China's Yunnan Province, to capture the beauty and glamour of the fabled region.
More than 10,000 photo works will be sought, and an exhibition will be held in Minhang District next month, the organizers announced over the weekend.
The exhibition will last 10 days, with free of admission.
The first batch of nearly 100 photographers from Shanghai arrived in Shangri-La on Friday.
The Minhang District has paired with Shangri-La in a national program to share the expertise of China's most modern cities with some of the country's backward regions.
It is hoped that the friendship and exchange between Shanghai and Shangri-La will be further deepened, said Yang Xiao, vice mayor of Shangri-La, when welcoming photographers from Shanghai.
Lin Nan, deputy director of the Minhang District Administration of Culture and Tourism, added: "The activity aims to promote the tourism resources of Shangri-La and attract more tourists.
"Cultural and tourism authorities of Minhang District will gather all resources to help boost tourism industry consumption and enhance poverty alleviation."
Shanghai Spring Tour said it will conduct themed activities such as photography, hiking and meditation to turn Shangri-La into a high-end tourism destination.
Yang Jianfu, head of the Shangri-La office of Shanghai-Yunnan coordination work team, said authorities are working on chartered tourism flights from Shanghai to Shangri-La to further promote exchanges between the two cities.
