Strollers standard released at city expo
China’s first quality standard for baby strollers was released at the China Kids and Toy Expo in Shanghai on Wednesday.
The standard, created by the China Toy & Juvenile Products Association along with 11 leading Chinese manufacturers, aims to regulate the large and mixed market.
“More consumers from home and abroad are looking for upmarket strollers for their children,” said Liang Mei, president of the association. “The standard will provide an official reference.”
The standard includes 36 indexes in the five parameters of safety, endurance, convenience, function and comfort to evaluate product quality.
For instance, a stroller must be equipped with a brake and can be folded and stand on its own. Another index requires the wheels to run over obstacles easily.
Apart from national certification, stroller manufacturers are required to have an additional label showing the quality of their products in the five parameters.
In September last year, the association invited certification and testing bodies, leading manufacturers and retailers to draft the standard. A seminar of experts was held online in April due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The association will work together with certification centers to supervise implementation of the new standard, Liang said.
