In tandem with Shanghai Spring Tour, government officials in Zhoushan, a city in neighboring Zhejiang Province, are integrating culture and sports to attract tourists and promote good health.

The initiative includes six cycling tours of varying distances that blend sports, fishing, culture and Zen meditation.

A Sunday cycling event around the coastal city drew more than 3,000 cyclists, mostly from the Yangtze River Delta region.

Participants traversed coastal highways and mountain passes while riding by tourist attractions such as the Daqing Mountain scenic area, Zhujiajian Bridge, Shenjiamen Fishing Port and Ma'ao Village.

A market featuring Zhoushan intangible cultural heritage and delicacies was held over the weekend. 

Spring Airlines launched a new route between Xi'an in Shaanxi Province and Zhoushan in May, and Shanghai Spring Tour is working with local authorities to develop the city into a world-renowned tourist destination.

Zhoushan consists of almost 1,400 islands and boasts more than 500 varieties of seafood.

The area features beautiful ocean landscapes and a temperate climate, ideal for outdoor sports, said Fang Wei, vice mayor of Zhoushan.

Different activities, such as walking, cycling, kite flying, sailing and beach soccer, have been created to promote the integration of leisure sports and tourism, said Fang.
