Sci-fi action film “Bleeding Steel,” which is kung fu star Jackie Chan's first foray into the sci-fi genre, is slated for national release on December 22.

Directed by Zhang Lijia, the film tells the story of a tough special forces agent who fights to protect a young woman from a criminal gang. At the same time, the agent feels a special connection to the young woman, as if they have known each other in a different life.

The film also stars Taiwanese singer and actor Show Lo, Australian actress Tess Haubrich and New Zealand-born Australian actor Callan Mulvey.

Many of its visually stunning scenes were shot across Beijing, Taipei and Sydney. Chan's final battle in the film was filmed on the rooftop of Sydney's iconic Opera House.

Gun fights, car racing and high-tech weapons are featured in the film. According to director Zhang, around 50 real guns were used to create a compelling gun fight scene.

The film represents new efforts for Chinese cinema in the sci-fi genre.
