The 4th Hungarian New Year’s Concert at the Moore Memorial Church in People’s Square attracted an audience of 800 local residents and expats.

The concert, presented by the MusiColore Vocal Ensemble on January 22, was organized by the Consulate General of Hungary in Shanghai.

Established in 2014 in Szekesfehervar, the ensemble performed different musical genres, from medieval Gregorian to contemporary masterpieces.

They received gold qualification at the Zoltán Kodály 7th Hungarian Choir Competition in 2015 and the Laurea Mundi International Choir Competition in 2016.

Sharing music is a good way to celebrate the new year and the Hungarian National Culture Day with friends in Shanghai, said Szilard Bolla, consul general of Hungary in Shanghai.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Hungary and China. However, Bolla said cultural exchanges between the two countries can be traced back more than 1,000 years.

He also revealed that direct flights between Shanghai and Budapest will start from June, helping to further serve exchanges better between the two sides.
