Chinese costume drama “Novoland: Eagle Flag” is gaining popularity overseas for its distinctive Oriental elements and exquisite sets.

The 56-episode drama co-produced by Linmon Pictures and Tencent Penguin Pictures stars Liu Haoran and Chen Ruoxuan as young heroes. It has received more than 1.2 billion views on Tencent’s v.qq.com.

The drama has also garnered big attention and heated discussion among foreign viewers in North America, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and South Korea after it debuted on Youtube, Amazon, Rakuten VIKI, ODC, Clip TV, MyTV and SingTel.

Many viewers regard it as China’s answer to “Game of Thrones” for its spectacular scenes and complicated plots. Set in a fantasy universe called “Novoland,” it is also a story of war, conspiracy and love.

Many of the scenes were shot in Hubei Province and the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Poetic landscapes in the drama also impressed the viewers.

In recent years more and more Chinese series such as “Legend of Fu Yao,” “A Love for Separation” and “Princess Agents” have been hailed by foreign viewers because of progress in storytelling, artistry and cinematography.
