The city’s annual shopping festival starts on Friday.

The festival, part of Shanghai Tourism Festival, will include dining, entertainment, and cultural exhibitions, Shanghai Commission of Commerce said.

More than 120 events will be held covering 16 districts, involving 2,000 companies, and 20,000 outlets.

The events will include discounts, electronic payment promotions, light shows, temporary outlets for Shanghai time-honored brands, exhibitions, beer festivals, and concerts.

An opening ceremony of the shopping festival will be held at Global Harbor Mall in Putuo District on Friday.

As a highlight, the commission said it will launch a “Night Shanghai Consumption Zone” to display the development of night fairs in the city.

Targeting expatriates and and foreign visitors, Xintiandi, Lao Wai Jie 101 on Hongmei Road, and Found158-168 on Julu Road have been chosen as demonstrative zones with restaurants and bars.For Chinese tourists, traditional Shanghai food brands have opened outlets in shopping malls in commercial business districts, including Qibao and Xujiahui.

Business hours at the food courts will be extended to 11pm.

Other shopping malls, including Global Harbor, Super Brand Mall in Lujiazui, Metro City in Xujiahui, and Vanke Mall in Qibao, will all extend their business hours, and six Metro lines will extended their services to midnight.
