BRICS Business Council 2017 Annual Meeting was held in Shanghai recently. Shanghai Party Secretary Han Zheng met members of the BRICS Business Council on September 1 prior to the meeting.

Han said the BRICS Business Council is of great importance for the world economy and has played an active role in promoting investment, trade, and financial service since its establishment five years ago. Shanghai will create a better business environment and achieve a win-win outcome for the BRICS countries. The Shanghai government is also working hard to build the Shanghai Free Trade Zone as the most open free trade zone.

The council representatives said the council’s annual reports and events are meant to push forward the interactions of industries and facilitate trade. Shanghai is a vibrant, open city and a pioneer of reforms and creations. They would like to further the cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy and green economy, financial service, and manufacture with Shanghai business counterparts.

Zhuge Yujie, secretary general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, along with Xu Lirong, chairman of COSCO Shipping Group, Sergey Katyrin, chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Onkar Kanwar, chairman and CEO of Apollo Tyres and many other representatives, attended the meeting.

The BRICS council was founded in March 2013, consisting of 25 members from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The council is meant to strengthen the economic, financial, business and investment among the countries and bridge the industries and governments.
