Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Sajid Javid, secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, and his delegation on Thursday.

Ying expressed his gratitude for the UK being the host country of the 19th China International Industry Fair. He said the Sino-UK relationship entered a new era since China’s President Xi Jinping had visited the UK and established global strategic partnership in 2015.

Shanghai has twin cities’ ties with London, Liverpool, and cooperation with them in trade, finance, and education, Ying added. He informed Javid that Shanghai is working hard to accelerate its Free Trade Zone and will hold China International Import Expo in November, 2018, and the 46th World Skill Competition in 2021.

Ying expressed his hope for furthering the cooperation with the UK in trade, finance, cultural industries, and tourism. Shanghai London and other major cities should work together to tackle the global warming issue.

Javid said the UK would be honored to take part in CIIX and he hoped the companies in China and the UK would have more cooperation to achieve win-win. The UK would like to strengthen the cooperation and cultural exchanges with Shanghai, make joint efforts to tackle the global warming issue.

John Edwards, general-consul of the UK to Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
