Rooftop joggers paradise in Jing'an

Fitness enthusiasts, especially joggers, can now use a new downtown venue for their exercise — only they won't be running on a ground-level park. 

This is because the newly-opened Jing'an Sports Center at 116 Wenshui Road in Jing’an District, has a rooftop running track — about 13 meters above the ground in fact. And it is now officially open to the public, officials said.

The 400-meter-long, six-lane track is part of a rooftop football field at the center, which can be used free of charge from 6am to 9am Monday to Friday, and between 6am to 8am over the weekend, the district government said.

The rooftop football field can be split into two smaller pitches. Each pitch can be used by seven players. The center also boasts two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, four tennis courts, 16 table tennis courts and 20 badminton courts. 

Basketball and badminton courts open from 10am to 10pm Monday to Friday while the other courts are open from 2pm to 10pm. All the courts will be open between 2pm and 10pm on weekends.

People can dial 3636-3536 to book the courts three days in advance. Fees vary depending on the type of the courts.
