Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Hage Geingob, president of Namibia, and his delegation on Monday.

Li welcomed his guests and said China and Namibia have had a long history of friendship, and Namibia has become China’s strategic partner after a prior meeting with President Xi Jinping, and it means significantly in promoting the cooperation and advancing the friendship between the two countries.

China welcomes Namibia and other countries to participate in the upcoming China International Import Expo in November, and it is an important step for China to further open up its market to the outside world. Li expressed his hope for the two countries to take this opportunity to promote the cooperation in trade, culture, and tourism.

Geingob said Namibia and China’s cooperation has been fruitful in a lot of areas. The establishment of the strategic partnership will usher in a new era for the two countries. China’s opening-up reforms and Shanghai’s achievements are impressive, and Namibia is willing to learn from Shanghai’s development experience and strengthen the cooperation with China.

Zhang Yiming, China’s ambassador to Namibia, Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, and Xu Kunlin, vice-mayor of Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
