The International Film Market of the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival held Taiwan Cinema Showcase on June 17 at Shanghai Exhibition Center. 

Taiwan filmmakers and actors attended to promote their new offerings.

During this year’s film fest, around 50 film production and distribution companies bring 76 Taiwan movies of varied genres and subjects. 

Among the new productions are the suspense action film “The Scoundrels,” heartwarming drama film “Half A Good Woman” and black-humored suspense film “Secrets In the Hot Spring.”

“The Scoundrels” is a new attempt of filmmakers in Taiwan in the action film genre. It depicts the new life challenges for a basketball player. 

JC Lin, who plays the leading role in the movie received intense physical training for two months.

According to CJ Wang, director of the family drama film “Half A Good Woman,” she wants to tell a story of a middle-aged woman’s desire for a space in the family. It is also about a woman’s growth and reflection on the meaning of life.

“Secrets In the Hot Spring” is a new offering of director Lin Kuan-hui. It is a story of a group of young people’s adventure at a hotel.

Lin said that the combination of the elements of suspense thriller and comedy will create amazing cinema experience for the viewers.
