People from Jinshanwei third community leave their homes for evacuation on Saturday night.

More than 15,000 people were evacuated in Shanghai's coastal Jinshan District in a race with Typhoon Ampil.

Jinshanwei third community put up all its 850 residents in temporary shelters on local school campuses as most houses in the community are in a condition of disrepair.

According to Jinshan official, built more than 100 years ago, the community is on a low ground and prone to be inundated.

“Most people live at the community are workers from inland provinces like Sichuan and Henan who have little experience of typhoon back in their home town,” said Xu Qing from the district government.

Jinshan prepared 30 places to settle the evacuated people. At Shanyang Middle School, doctors provide blood pressure measurement for them.

“I left all personal belongings at home,” said a worker. “But I feel safe with the guard of the district official.”

Jinshan strengthened more than 20,000 trees. All 26 boats are docked in shelter.
