A man who was filmed striking “ShellieMay” at Shanghai Disneyland has been banned from entering the park for six months, Shanghai Disney Resort announced yesterday.

The incident was captured in a video clip that went viral over the weekend. The clip shows a man rushing to hit the head of a performer dressed as ShellieMay, a Disney bear character.

The woman who shot the video said it occurred on Saturday when “ShellieMay” was interacting with visitors.

After striking the costumed performer, the man was subdued at the scene and then transferred to the park’s security guards, the woman said.

Shanghai Disney Resort said yesterday that the man was ordered to leave the park immediately and banned for six months. It also urged visitors respect the park’s performers. It did not reveal the current condition of performer.

Last November, a performer at the park dressed as “Dale” was struck in the head by a female visitor. The performer was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a cerebral concussion.
