Shanghai's market watchdog will launch a specific campaign targeting trademark infringement, unfair competition, false promotion and unlicensed business operation ahead of the China International Import Expo, officials announced on Friday.

The areas around the National Exhibition and Convention Center, as well as major commercial streets, clothing and small commodity markets and department stores, tourist souvenir markets, scenic spots and transport hubs are the key areas to be targeted, according to the Shanghai Industry and Commerce Administration.

Illegal use of the registered trademarks of enterprises attending the expo is being particularly targeted, and inspections on electronic products, clothing and agricultural goods which are more vulnerable to trademark infringement will be increased, the administration said.

False promotion online which misleads consumers on the quality of products, sales figure and reviews will be cracked down on too.

The aim of the campaign is to protect intellectual property rights and promote fair competition ahead of the event, the administration said.
