Renowned for their intrinsic coolness, residents will be feeling even cooler from Friday, though autumn hasn’t quite arrived yet.

Downtown Xujiahui weather station recorded a high of 32.9 degrees yesterday, but,  under the influence of a cold front, the high is set to fall by about seven degrees to 26 degrees today and keep heading south to 21 degrees tonight.

The bad news is that along with falling temperatures, a little rain must fall and thunderstorms will hit the city.

Tomorrow will be overcast, with scattered showers in the afternoon and temperatures from 21 to 27 degrees. The rain should stop Sunday and temperatures will remain stable.

The cold front is forecast to depart the city next week and a subtropical high is set to take its place place. Summer will be back.

Five consecutive days with average temperatures below 22 degrees signal the official beginning of autumn. On average, Shanghai enters autumn on October 2.
