Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Stanley Loh Ka Leung, Singapore’s ambassador to China, and his delegation on Wednesday.

Ying said China and Singapore have a close economic and trade ties and China is Singapore’s largest trade partner and investor.

Shanghai and Singapore have always had good cooperation and partnership. Currently, the city is accelerating the process of building itself into an international center of economy, finance, trade, shipping as well as a technology and innovation center, and it’s also trying to build the Shanghai Free Trade Zone into a bridgehead to serve the Belt and Road Initiative.

Shanghai is willing to strengthen the cooperation in industries such as modern service, finance, urban management, urban renovation, and technological innovation with Singapore, enhancing the two’s overall cooperation partnership.

Shanghai welcomes Singapore’s companies to invest in the city and it will work hard to create a law-abiding, international, convenient, fair and efficient business environment for domestic and foreign companies, Ying added.

Loh said the Sino-Singapore relations and the two’s cooperation have been on the rise. Singapore is willing to work with Shanghai to create new cooperation mechanisms and platforms, focusing on the Belt and Road Initiative, modern services and finance industry, urbanization and sustainable development, technology and innovation, and cultural innovation.

Loh Tuck Wai, Singapore’s general-consul in Shanghai, also attended the meeting.
