Shanghai issued a blue typhoon alert, the lowest on a four-tier system, at 5pm today as Typhoon Kong-rey is approaching.

It will bring gusty winds from tomorrow morning but it is expected to weaken on Saturday, weathermen say.

Scatteted showers are expected tonight. Rain will stop on Saturday.

Kong-rey reached waters 465 kilometers south to Naha, capital of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, at 11pm yesterday. It is moving northwesterly with gusts up to 20 kilometers per hour, Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

Kong-rey is set to reach the southern East China Sea in wee hours tomorrow. 

Tomorrow and Saturday will be overcast, with showers forecast in some areas. Temperatures will range between 21 and 25 degrees. Rain will stop from Sunday but the temperatures will continue to fall, with the low down to 20 degrees. It will further drop to 19 degrees next Monday, the first workday after the National Day holiday, forecasters said.
