Two people have been caught for spreading rumors about Cao Kefan, a well known Shanghai TV host, police said yesterday.
Cao was rumored to have been fired by Shanghai TV and then to have committed suicide after an internet financial company he endorsed went bankrupt. He issued a statement through a law firm yesterday condemning the rumors.
Police in Xuhui District said they started their investigation after Cao reported the case to them.
Cao was a regular host of the Shanghai International Film Festival, and played a part in the Chinese movie “The Flowers of War” by Zhang Yimou.
