Netizens have reported 39 locations where they have heard loud vehicles, and police have announced a crackdown after verification of their claims.

Shanghai traffic police published a list on Wednesday of 39 locations around the city with vehicle noise problems have been widely reported.

Xintiandi is on the list, also the intersection of Beijing Road W. and Huanghe Road. In downtown Jing’an, the intersection of Xinzha Road and Zhenning Road and the part of East Baoxing Road between Huangshan Road and Sichuan Road N. are on the list.

No complaints have been received from residents in Changning, Qingpu, Fengxian and Chongming districts.

From this month, most vehicles are restricted to a maximum noise level of 80 decibels. Violators can be fined 200 yuan (US$29), with three points deducted from their licenses. Motorcycles noisier than 80 decibels are banned from the roads between 9pm and 7am.
