France-based retailer fined for 'substandard' sportswear

An outlet of sports retailer Decathlon in Shanghai has been fined and had illegal profit totaling about 100,000 yuan (US$14,940) confiscated for selling substandard knitted sportswear.

Decathlon (Shanghai) Sports Goods Co Ltd, on Yinxiao Road in the Pudong New Area, has sold 1,147 substandard knitted sports suits and made more than 80,000 yuan, according to the Pudong New Area Market Supervision and Management Bureau.

The outlet of the France-based retailer has launched a recall and destroyed substandard clothing after the inspection, according to the bureau.

It was fined 80,385 yuan based on sale price and the illegal profit of 18,912 yuan was confiscated by the bureau, which did not reveal exactly what the substandard item was.
