A total of 253 parks in Shanghai are already open 24 hours, or will extend their opening hours between May 1 and October 31, to allow residents to enjoy pleasant summer evenings.

The parks are located in all 16 districts, accounting for 84 percent of all parks in the city, according to the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.

The figure is up by 58 from last year.

The Huangpu Park in Huangpu District, Xujiahui Park and Xiangyang Park in Xuhui District, and Zhongshan Park and Hongqiao Park in Changning District are open 24 hours throughout the year.

The Jinqiao Park, Century Park and Lujiazui central green area in the Pudong New Area will extend their opening hours to 9pm during the period. 

The Shanghai Botanical Garden in Xuhui District, Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu District and Shanghai Guyi Garden in Jiading District will remain open till 7:30pm during the period.

Park operators will enhance security and increase patrols at night to eliminate hazards with the cooperation of police, urban management officials and sub-district authorities.

Greenery officials have called on residents to obey public order and regulations, be mindful of others and not to play loud music.

Walking and jogging are recommended.

The bureau also expects park operators to improve facilities such as steps, guardrails, lighting, surveillance cameras and signboards.
