Yin Yicui, chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai People’s Congress, met with Egypt’s parliamentary speaker Ali Abdel Aal and his delegation at the People’s Building in People’s Square yesterday.

Egypt and China are both ancient civilizations and it was impressive of Egypt to actively participate in the Shanghai World Expo and the first China International Import Expo, Yin said.

Shanghai has friendly relations, cultural exchanges and cooperation with Egyptian cities, including Alexandria. Shanghai is building an international economic, financial, trade, shipping and technological innovation center. The industrial structure and infrastructure construction have undergone earth-shaking changes, reflecting the predominant philosophy that everything makes people’s lives better, Yin added.

The Shanghai People’s Congress also has many exchanges with parliaments of many nations and the prospects for friendly cooperation between the two countries are promising, according to Yin.

Both countries attach great importance to the development of bilateral relations. China’s development achievements are remarkable, and Shanghai’s development experiences in the fields of economy, trade, medical care, environmental protection and new energy are worth learning, Aal said.
