A drill was carried out on Saturday near the venue of the second China International Import Expo to test how the traffic system will respond to emergency situations.

The drill first simulated a scene where a car caught fire in the Zhuguang Road Tunnel. The tunnel will be one of the major ways cars get to enter the venue.

Once the car started to burn, maintenance officers broadcast the alarm in the tunnel and on digital signboards around the venue.

Sprinklers were set off in the tunnel, while the exhaust system cooled the place down.

After the fire was put out, the tow truck cleared the site.

The drill also simulated a situation when a suspicious person was spotted bringing dangerous items inside East Xujing Station. The station is the closest Metro station to the expo venue.

The Metro operator sealed off the station, allowing no one to enter while the police searched for the dangerous objects.

Volunteers and staff help passengers evacuate the station. Shuttle buses arrived to take them to nearby Metro stations.

Some 1,000 people and over 50 buses attended the drill.
