An intelligent real-time food safety monitoring system will be in place during the China International Import Expo which begins on November 5, Shanghai's food and market watchdog said on Friday.

The platform merges nine functions such as data integration and analysis, guidance in the case of emergencies and video monitoring, the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation said at a conference prior to the event.

Inspectors will use apps to record real-time supervision results, according to the administration.

A food safety center has been established at the venue, the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Qingpu District, enabling remote real-time monitoring and fast testing for food safety.

The number of food suppliers has been cut to 68 from last year's 103, and nine delivery companies have been selected in a bid to enhance management and reduce food transit and storage processes, the administration said.

Strict supervision and management of logistics, vehicle seals, food testing and transport routes has been worked out, with a food-tracing system established, it said.

Food items have been arriving at the venue since October 18, and nearly 400 officials in 12 districts covering 54 delivery spots have checked 965 boxes and conducted tests on 250 batches as of Thursday, according to the administration.

It has listed 12 tasks for the second CIIE, including checks on prices, quality, advertising and the safety of specialized equipment.
