Popular science articles on HPV (human polillomavirus) and an explanation of pulmonary nodules from the Shanghai Cancer Center won top prizes at a national popular medical-science content competition, the Shanghai Health Enhancement Association said on Wednesday.

Popular science content has become a major tool for the medical industry and government to offer basic public health education and improve awareness on healthcare, local health officials said.

A total of 27 works from Shanghai entered the final of the competition and 17 won prizes.

Doctors and hospitals used videos, stories and pictures to promote knowledge of disease and health protection.

Content about proper use of eyedrops from the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University; and information about Alzheimer’s disease from Shanghai Mental Health Center also received positive responses from the public.
