The starting gun finally fired on Saturday at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Qingpu for Ride Like a Pro, a bicycle race managed by Giro d'Italia, Italy's equivalent of the Tour de France.

The first day of the race was five 5-kilometer circuits around the NECC trapezoid track of continuous curves, with three hairpin turns in the middle, quite challenging for the riders.

Ride Like a Pro, a bicycle race managed by Giro d'Italia, Italy's equivalent of the Tour de France, kicked off on Saturday.

At 8am, the professionals set off. Timothy Wilcox , Robert Regis and Daniel Boettger dominated from the start, opening a wide lead after only 10 minutes.

Wilcox and Regis crossed the finish line together in 40 minutes and 15 seconds, holding each other’s shoulders as they crossed the line.

Apart from the professionals, Ride Like a Pro had plenty of fun activities for families and friends.

Around noon, children and parents took part in a fun ride on the 2.5-kilometer track, cheered on by the crowd on the side of the road much as the pros had been.

Children on mini bikes have fun at Ride Like a Pro.

Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck, two legendary riders and rivals who were both Tour de France winners, had an interesting battle on children’s bikes.

Contador, who had been secretly practicing on a mini bike so small he could not even stretch his legs, battered Schleck.
