Cultural and tourism authorities from central China's Hunan Province released the province's winter activities, tour itineraries and incentives in Shanghai on Monday to boost its winter tourism.

Zhangjiajie City, home of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, known for its otherworldly mountains, will host 10 themed activities including a winter swimming and hot springs festival, a New Year's concert, an international tourism and poetry festival, and a New Year's hiking event through February 29.

Tourists are invited to join in local celebrations for the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year. There will also be a lantern festival and folk cultural performances from ethnic groups like the Miao, Bai and Tujia.

The Qianjiang-Changde Railway, with 15 stations in southwest China's Chongqing City and Hunan, will open on December 26, and tourists who take the first high-speed trains to Zhangjiajie will be able to enjoy free admission to attractions such as Wulingyuan and Tianmen Mountain.

More incentives targeting high-speed railway passengers will be released, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism said in Shanghai.

Hunan and Shanghai are complementary in their cultural and tourism resources, and are important tourist sources for each other, tourism authorities on both sides said.

Hunan's economic and cultural exchange with cities in the Yangtze River Delta region are becoming closer with the construction of the high-speed railway network, the department said.
