Shanghai maternity hospitals have welcomed the first babies born in the Year of the Rat.

Hospitals have enhanced disinfection and management for coronavirus prevention and control.

Anyone arriving has their temperature checked and is questioned about their connection to Wuhan, the center of the outbreak. Visitors also wear masks.

A boy was delivered at 12:42am. The 3,640-gram baby is the second child of the family and his parents gave him the nickname Niu Niu, which is a homophone for “new.”
