All people from key areas to be quarantined
All people who have visited key areas of the coronavirus outbreak are to be quarantined at home or in designated hotels for 14 days, while reporting their temperature twice a day to Shanghai health authorities.
A hotel in Minhang District has gathered everyone in the district who has traveled to affected areas and lacks a Shanghai residence.
They will have their temperatures checked twice a day and all waste will be processed as medical waste, said staff from a neighborhood health center.
Medical staff also provide psychological support and items people need. Among the 12 people gathered there so far are 11 adults and one child.
All local neighborhood health centers must contact and visit those from key areas for at-home quarantine and closely monitor their condition.
“A family of three returned from Wuhan on January 23. We visited them immediately and told them to stay at home for 14 days,” said Dr Chen Yun from a neighborhood health center in the Pudong New Area. “We were informed that the father had a fever last night and so immediately took him to a fever clinic for diagnosis and treatment. His wife and child are fine.”
The center was informed by Shanghai Health Commission that 55 people in their jurisdiction have connections with key area. All were contacted and checked.
“After investigation, we found that 17 people had visited Wuhan recently and we gave them all advice on proper quarantine and provided disinfectants,” said the center director Tang. “Most cooperated, but one person from Wuhan has since disappeared, but we are working to trace the individual.”
To ensure the safety of staff and those in quarantine, all medics wear full protective clothing which they change whenever they visit a new family.
