Suspected fake mask sellers handed over to police
Six suspects have been handed over to police for selling fake and substandard facial masks, Shanghai's market watchdog said on Wednesday.
One of the suspects, surnamed Yang, was found selling nearly 5,000 fake and substandard medical-style facial masks in Yangpu District, and these have been confiscated and for further testing, said the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation.
According to the administration, Yang bought nearly 6,000 masks from a couple at the City God Temple commodity market. These products were part of a batch of 50,000 masks sold among vendors at the market via a seller from Henan Province.
In total, more than 40,000 of the fake masks have been sold at 0.4 to 0.6 yuan (5 to 9 US cents) each, the administration said.
