Shanghai confirms 7 new coronavirus infections

Shanghai confirmed seven more patients infected with the novel coronavirus-related pneumonia and ruled out 20 suspected cases on Friday morning, according to the city’s health commission.

The newly diagnosed patients include four from Hubei Province — two from the provincial capital Wuhan and two from other cities — and three living in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai.

So far, Shanghai has reported altogether 135 infected patients, aged between 7 and 88, and cleared 245 suspected cases, said the commission.

Among the infected, 89 have lived or traveled in Hubei Province, two have lived or traveled in other provinces, 42 have had contact with infected patients and two had no known connection with Hubei.

Sixty-two are from outside of Shanghai, including 44 from Wuhan, 16 from other cities in Hubei, and one each from Anhui and Heilongjiang provinces.

Seventy-three people are local residents, including 25 living in Pudong, eight in Jing’an, six in Changning, five each in Xuhui, Minhang and Fengxian, four each in Huangpu and Hongkou, three in Songjiang, two each in Baoshan, Jiading and Qingpu, and one in Yangpu and Jinshan each.

Currently, 120 of the patients are in stable condition, five are critical, nine have been discharged from hospital upon recovery and one has died. Another 200 suspected cases are undergoing tests.
