8 new imported coronavirus cases reported in Shanghai

Eight new imported coronavirus cases were reported in Shanghai on Thursday, bringing the total number of such infections to 33. Another 23 imported suspected cases are undergoing check, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Friday morning.

Among the newly diagnosed cases, one is Anhui Province native, who was on a business trip involving Spain and other countries. The person left Frankfurt on March 15 and arrived at the Pudong International Airport via Taipei the next day. The person was put under quarantine upon arrival and started to show symptoms during quarantine.

The second case is a Shanghai native, who studied in Switzerland. The person left Zurich on March 16 and arrived at the Pudong airport via Hong Kong the next day and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The third case is a Jiangsu Province native, who studied in the UK. The person left London on March 16 and arrived at the Pudong airport the next day via Moscow and was put under quarantine.

The fourth is a Fujian Province native, who worked in the UK. The person left London on March 16 and arrived at the Pudong airport the next day via Moscow and was put under quarantine.

The fifth is a Shanghai native, who studied in the UK. The person left London on March 16 and arrived at the Pudong airport the next day and was put under quarantine.

The sixth is a Zhejiang Province native, who studied in the US. The person left Chicago on March 15 and arrived at the Pudong airport via Taipei on March 17 and was put under quarantine.

The seventh is a Spanish, who visited family in Spain. The person left Barcelona on March 16 and arrived at the Pudong airport on March 18 via Doha and Bangkok and was put under quarantine.

The eighth is a Zhejiang Province native, who studied in Spain. The person left Madrid on March 17 and arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport the next day via Hong Kong. The person was sent to a designated hospital for showing symptoms upon arrival.

All the eight patients have been transferred to the designated hospital for treatment and 93 close contacts on the planes have been tracked down and put under quarantine and observation, the commission said.

There were no locally transmitted cases reported on Thursday. So far, the city has reported 338 local cases and there is no local suspected cases undergoing check at present.

Currently, 42 patients are hospitalized, including 32 imported cases. Thirty-three patients are stable, one in serious condition and eight are critically ill.

Till now, 326 patients have been discharged upon recovery. There are three local fatalities so far.
