The suspect is held by police after stolen money was allegedly found at her house.

A woman who works as a domestic helper has been detained for allegedly stealing from her employer, polices said on Friday.

The employer, a woman surnamed Chen who lives in a residential complex on Zhongshan Road N. in Putuo District, reported the theft to the police on April 1.

Chen claimed that she found cash missing from a nightstand in her bedroom, including 1,000 yuan (US$142) and 300,000 Indonesian rupiah (US$19).

 Chen recalled that her home helper twice closed the door of her bedroom when she was supposed to be cleaning it earlier that day.

The home helper, a woman surnamed Li, was soon established as a suspect. Li was found in her home later that day with all of the stolen money discovered in her wardrobe, police said.

Li has allegedly confessed to the theft.
