Quick grant of temporary entry permit for injured foreign sailor
A foreign sailor suffering an acute eye problem has been quickly granted a temporary entry permit by the Yangshan Immigration Inspection Station to allow for hospitalization.
So far the station has granted 12 injured sailors quick entry this year.
On Thursday, the station received an emergency application from a Liberian vessel in the East China Sea, stating one of its sailors was suffering an acute eye disease.
The sailor, who was in great pain, was told by ophthalmologists in an online remote diagnosis that he needed to receive medical treatment as soon as possible or risk blindness.
The station appraised the vessel's sailing track and its crew members' health conditions. It also notified other authorities such as customs to allow for epidemic prevention measures.
After issuing the permit, it connected an air rescue team belonging to China's Ministry of Transport, which is responsible for the East China Sea area, with the city's medical emergency center.
The sailor arrived in Shanghai at 8:30am on Friday morning and went through quick checks for quarantine and identity.
He was later sent to the Shanghai Seventh People's Hospital.
On Friday, the station also issued another quick temporary entry permit for a foreign sailor whose leg had been scalded, leading to the risk of amputation.
The Yangshan Immigration Inspection Station alerted an air rescue team belonging to the nation's Ministry of Transport to the sailor's plight.
The identity of the injured foreign sailor is checked by an officer with the Yangshan Immigration Inspection Station.
The Yangshan Immigration Inspection Station also issued a temporary entry permit for another foreign sailor whose leg had been scalded.
