A competition for Shanghai souvenirs kicked off on Friday, seeking works that showcase the city's splendor, local cultural and tourism authorities announced.

The competition, which is in its 15th year, is seeking short videos on social network Douyin (or TikTok) for the first time. An account known as "Shanghai gift" will be launched on the platform for the event.

The aim is to attract the participation of young designers and other young people, the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism said.

Applications can be made on http://www.shijue.me/.

Designers entering the final round will be invited to visit animation companies, cultural venues and tourist attractions to experience how a "Shanghai gift" is created and put on the market.

The administration said the organizing committee will select about 100 outstanding works and help them hit the market via channels such as franchise stores of Shanghai souvenirs and shops at tourist attractions.
