11 new COVID-19 cases reported in Shanghai

Shanghai reported 11 imported novel coronavirus cases on Thursday, while eight patients were discharged from hospital upon recovery, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Friday morning.

The first seven new patients, including six Chinese and a Briton, left the UK on August 13, transferred via Russia on the same flight and arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 14.

The eighth to 10th patients are Chinese working in Ethiopia who arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 18.

The last one is a Chinese working in Brazil who arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 19.

All the new patients have been transferred to the designated hospital for treatment, while 269 close contacts on the planes have been put under quarantine and observation at designated places.

So far, of all the 520 imported cases, 442 have been discharged upon recovery and 78 are still hospitalized.

No imported suspected cases are undergoing test.

No new locally transmitted or suspected cases were reported on Thursday.

Of all the 342 local cases, 335 have been discharged upon recovery. There have been so far seven local fatalities.

No asymptomatic infection cases are undergoing medical observation now, the health commission said.
