Zheng Junhua was the leader of the first Shanghai medical team to assist in Hubei Province during the pandemic.

Front-line medical experts were among 10 people honored on Wednesday as the city’s “most beautiful scientific and technological workers.”

They included Wu Fan, deputy director of the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University and a leading expert with Shanghai's COVID-19 medical team.

Having been devoted to public health for nearly 30 years, Wu perceived that coronavirus could easily spread from person to person and suggested local authorities immediately take measures including tracing the whereabouts of infected people and putting their close contacts under quarantine.

Another medical worker, Zheng Junhua, vice president of Shanghai General Hospital, was the leader of the first Shanghai medical team to assist in Hubei Province during the pandemic

In Wuhan, his team was the first to offer the autopsy medical records and release articles based on clinical research.

Others honored included Lin Baojun, chief designer of the BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System; Kong Hainan, who’s been restoring the Erhai Lake ecosystem for 15 years; and Lin Hongxuan who improves crops through gene modification.

As Shanghai candidates, they will compete with others to win the title of the nation’s most beautiful scientific and technological workers. The results will be announced in October.
