Excess bacteria found on hotpot dishware

The dishware of a hotpot restaurant in Changning District was found to contain excessive coliform bacteria, Shanghai's market watchdog said on Wednesday.

The bacteria was found on a cup and a bowl at the Changning outlet of Shang Shang Qian, which was opened by pop singer Xue Zhiqian. 

The information will be recorded in the city's food safety credibility platform of food businesses, and an investigation is underway, the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation said. 

Excessive coliform bacteria indicates that the food may be contaminated via ingredients, packages, personnel or equipment or resulting from improper storage, the administration said.
