Events will be held across Jing’an District as part of efforts to boost consumer spending, authorities said.

Between January and July, total retail sales of consumer goods in Jing’an exceeded 65.8 billion yuan (US$9.62 billion), a year-on-year increase of 13.17 percent.

“The Nanjing Road W. commercial zone has a very strategic position. The bustling downtown zone gathers the world’s top luxury brands. Many people have cancelled overseas travel plans due to the pandemic, and they go shopping on Nanjing Road W.,” said Lin Xiaojue, director of Jing’an Commerce Commission.

She added: “Also, we launched so many activities during the Double Five Shopping Festival to boost consumption. Our efforts have worked.”

Jing’an hopes for continued shopping success through the rest of the year.

The four-day Fashion Zoo, a fashion extravaganza featuring exhibitions, interactive experiences and new product releases, just ended at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. Crossover cooperation between designers, artists and environmental activists is displayed to deliver a message of sustainable lifestyle, along with today's top fashion.

On September 18, Sephora will hold a new product launch at the JINART exhibition hall on Tongren Road, promoting more than 130 new products.

On September 25, CGC Girls Collection will kick off at the Shanghai New Jing’an Sports Center. Over the two-day fashion gala, Internet celebrities will host livestreams to promote products. There will also be pop-up stores.

In November, the Plaza 66 shopping mall will hold the “Home To Luxury” fashion party. Fragrance brand Boitown and cosmetics retailer Bonnie&Clyde will open new stores at the HKRI Taikoo Hui mall.

As the China International Import Expo will take place in November, Jing’an has a great chance to promote international brands.

“Jing’an is an international district, home to many regional headquarters of multinational companies and commerce chambers of foreign countries. We plan to hold exhibitions to promote products from different countries,” Lin said.

Brick-and-mortar stores will also follow with the Double 11 and Double 12 online shopping sprees in November and December to launch sales and other promotion activities.
