During the conference, strategic agreements were reached between the Changxing Island Development Office, Shanghai Industrial Investment Promotion Center and China Export and Import Bank.

A conference on the industrial development of Changxing Island in Congming District was held on Sunday at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.

Strategic agreements were reached among parties including the Changxing Island Development Office, Shanghai Industrial Investment Promotion Center, Huawei Shanghai Company and China Export and Import Bank.

The Changxing Industrial Park also signed key industrial projects with 12 partners including Shanghai Jiaotong University and China Corporate United Investment.

The projects, with a total investment of nearly 10 billion yuan (US $1.48 billion), will mainly focus on areas involved in marine equipment, intelligent manufacturing, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, integrated circuits, bio-medicine and financial services.

At present, 10 major industrial projects worth about 12 billion yuan are under construction in the Changxing Industrial Park, which will together inject new impetus to promote the high-quality development of Changxing.

Guidelines for the high-quality development of Changxing industries were also issued during the conference.

“Changxing Island strives to lead in manufacturing and marine technological innovation, as well as pushing the integrated development of the city with more international competitiveness and market influence,” said Li Zheng, party secretary of Chongming District.

Located at the Yangtze estuary, Changxing Island is a key gateway for the integrated development of the Delta Region.

The 162-square-kilometer island bears rich ecological resources such as deep water coastlines key for marine equipment and the Qingcaosha Reservoir, one of the key water sources of Shanghai.

The completion of metro line extending to Chongming will shorten the traveling time from Lujiazui in Pudong New Area to Changxing Island to about 30 minutes.
