Led by Minhang District Central Hospital, a regional health service system, built in partnership with leading city-level hospitals and neighborhood health centers, has been established to allow patients to receive high-quality and convenient medical treatment near their homes, local health officials said.

The hospital in Minhang has cooperated with Zhongshan Hospital, Shanghai Cancer Center and Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital of Fudan University to invite leading specialists from top hospitals to offer out-patient services in neighborhood health centers. Those needing surgery will be transferred to the Minhang District Central Hospital and then sent back to the grassroots health facility for further rehabilitation and care.

The hospital has become a bridge between leading hospitals and neighborhood health centers, while patients can receive convenient, targeted and nearby service more conveniently.

“Since the majority of leading medical resources are located downtown, we also set up special clinics for pulmonary nodules, stroke, prenatal screening, spine disease and medicine use to better service the residents,” said Ren Ning, vice president of the hospital.

The hospital also cooperates with Zhongshan Hospital and 13 neighborhood health centers to set up a trio-level early stomach and colorectal cancer screening and transfer network.

The detection rate of early stomach cancer is 24.7 percent, much higher than the national level. Some 7,000 cases detected in the neighborhood have been transferred to senior hospitals for further diagnosis and treatment. A total of 324 patients have received treatment for risk of colorectal cancer and early-stage of colorectal cancer under endoscope.
