A surveillance camera on the platform of Luonan Xincun station on Line 7 catches the incident.

A man who refused to wear a mask on the Metro has been detained after injuring a staffer, Shanghai police said on Sunday.

The incident took place at Luonan Xincun Station on Line 7 at 5:45am on September 22.

When waiting for the train on the platform, the 59-year-old man surnamed Wang was asked to wear a mask by a Metro staffer surnamed Li, but he refused to comply and pushed Li  to the ground before entering the train, police said.

Wang was caught by police on September 24. He has been detained for injuring other people and fined 200 yuan (US$30).

At present, all Metro passengers are required to wear a mask after entering Metro stations.
