Shangyu, a county-level city in the south of neighboring Zhejiang Province, unveiled its tourism and agricultural resources to Shanghai residents at People’s Square on April 13.

The picturesque Cao’e River, fruit picking for all four seasons and rich traditional culture attracted the attention of Shanghai residents and travel agencies. Shangyu is one of the main origins of the famous Yue Kiln celadon, which dates back to as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD).

A high-speed train from Shanghai to Shangyu will be put into operation by the end of the year, making it convenient for tourists from Shanghai to visit the picturesque city.

In 2018, the gross domestic product of Shangyu reached 91.65 billion yuan (US$13.48 billion), rising 7.4 percent over 2017. With a planned area of 175 square kilometers, the economic and technology development zones in Shangyu were ranked 100th among 219 national-level development zones in China, and it’s the largest development zone in Shaoxing City. Shangyu lies to the east of Shaoxing.

The Cao’e River, Fuzhi Mountain, Er’du Waxberry Garden and Chinese Filial Piety Park are the main tourist attractions in the area. Shangyu has been listed as China’s Best Leisure City, National-level Demonstration County on Leisure, Agriculture and Rural Tourism, and the Most Beautiful Rural Travel Destination in China.

With a total land area of 1,403 sq kms, Shangyu serves as a link between Hangzhou and Ningbo. Its total population is 780,000 in 21 sub-districts and townships.
